Whether you're indulging in gourmet dining in Grand Case, lounging on the pristine sands of Orient Bay, or exploring the quaint streets of Marigot, there's something for every traveler.

Best Things to Do in Saint Martin

Unwind on Orient Beach

Want to truly experience the heart and soul of Saint Martin’s French side? Look no further than Orient Beach. This sun-kissed stretch of sand is a paradise where adventure meets relaxation. Hop on a jet ski, soar through the skies parasailing, or carve through the waves windsurfing.

Or maybe you're in the mood for something more chill? Sink into a comfy beach chair and unwind with a fruity cocktail as the Caribbean sun kisses your skin. When night falls, hit the beach strip – expect a lively atmosphere with numerous buzzing bars and restaurants.

Eat, Drink, and Play at Grand Case

By day, Grand Case is a sleepy seaside village. But, as the sun dips below the horizon, this charming town comes alive in a whole new way – it's a foodie's dream come true.

Wander down the picturesque main strip, where the aroma of sizzling delicacies fills the air. From cozy French bistros dishing out mouthwatering gourmet meals to the smoky goodness of ribs served at local lolos, every bite offers a taste of the island.

Our top recommendations: Hit up Cynthia's or Scooby's for ribs and Johnny Cakes at lunch time, and end your day with an upscale meal at La Villa or Le Cottage.

Admire the Island’s Incredible Art

Immerse yourself in the island’s creativity by exploring one of Saint Martin’s art galleries – local artists bring the island to life through vivid colors and captivating designs. The Roland Richardson Gallery in Marigot is the most popular spot. Here you can view breathtaking impressionist-style works that capture the stunning landscapes and lively spirit of Saint Martin.

For a more eclectic experience, wander through smaller studios that showcase everything from contemporary abstract pieces to vibrant Caribbean folk art, each offering its own unique perspective on island life. Swing by the likes of Minguet Art Gallery and Silk Cotton Grove Art Gallery to find unique souvenirs.

Marvel at the View from Rotary Point

The view from Rotary Lookout Point is one of the island's best. This gem, perched high above the coastline, offers a jaw-dropping panoramic vista of Saint Martin’s sparkling turquoise waters and rolling, lush hillsides. Just remember to wear sensible shoes, as the wooden stairs can be slippery.

Arrive early in the morning to beat the crowds and enjoy a peaceful, serene moment, with the island waking up around you. Or, if you're in the mood for something a little more romantic, time your visit to catch the sunset.

Take the Ferry to Pinel Island

Tiny but irresistible, taking a trip to the stunning Pinel Island is another one of the best things to do in Saint Martin. Despite its size, the island is home to a generous serving of brilliant beach bars and restaurants. Head to Karibuni for a tasty lunch – but reserve a slot in advance to snag a table.

Venture inward on one of the many leafy hiking trails, or spend the afternoon on the beach with a book. Oh, and keep an eye out as you lounge – you might spot a few iguanas worshipping the sun, also living their best island life.

You can easily catch a ferry from the port at Cul-de-Sac. During the high season (December - April), ferries run from everyday between 9:30 am until 5:00 pm. A return trip is $12.

Take a Surf Lesson (Or Flex Your Skills)

The French Saint Martin is a surfer's dream, with fantastic surf spots that cater to all skill levels. If you're new to surfing, why not sign up for a lesson with Saint Martin Surf Club? They'll teach you how to master the art of riding the Caribbean swell, ensuring you’re carving through the waves in no time.

If you're already a pro, Le Galion Beach is a popular spot. The waves here are perfect for beginners but still offer plenty of excitement for seasoned surfers looking to have some fun.

Tackle a Hike to Pic Paradis

Lace up your hiking boots and tackle one of the best Saint Martin hikes: Pic Paradis, the highest peak on the island. The trek is a bit challenging, but the payoff? Unbeatable panoramic views that stretch across the coastline, lush green hills, and even neighboring islands when the sky is clear.

Don't worry if you're not feeling up to the hike. There’s a scenic road that leads to the top, so you can still experience those stunning views without breaking a sweat. Whether you’re hiking to the summit or cruising to the top, the breathtaking vistas at Pic Paradis are worth every step (or drive!).

Take a Stroll Around Marigot Town

Don't forget to explore the capital of French Saint Martin, Marigot Town. The quaint streets are lined with colorful markets, chic boutiques, and cozy local cafés serving up tasty pastries (the perfect way to embrace the French influence, if you ask us).

Make your way up to Fort Louis and you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the bay and a glimpse into the island’s past. The 18th-century fort was built to defend Marigot's harbor – the ruins make for a fun photo opportunity.

Enjoy Saint Martin’s Lively Beach Bars

As the sun sets, the fun kicks into gear at Saint Martin’s thrumming beach bars. Whether you're in the mood for a laid-back tiki hut or a sleek beachfront lounge, you'll find somewhere that fits your vibe.

Bikini Beach and Kakao on Orient Bay are always buzzing with energy, serving up delicious cocktails, live music, and an infectious atmosphere. While spots like Sunset Beach Bar, located in the Grand Case Beach Club, are a more low-key affair.

Looking to dance the night away under the stars? Make sure to catch one of the island’s legendary full moon parties, where the beach comes alive. It’s the kind of night you’ll never forget.

Visit Rhum Gouverneur 1648

Saint Martin’s rhum scene is incredible. If you're a fan of the spirit, a visit to Rhum Gouverneur 1648 is a must. The distillery offers a deep dive into the art of rum-making, steeped in tradition and history.

Take a guided tour and discover how local sugarcane is transformed into some of the finest rum in the Caribbean. And, of course, you’ll get to savor a range of smooth, flavorful rums – each one crafted with care and passion.
